The diet drugs Fen-Phen, Pondimin and Redux were found to cause serious heart valve problems such as aortic valve regurgitation and mitral valve regurgitation. They were also found to cause primary pulmonary hypertension, which can cause death. As a result of these alarming discoveries, Fen-Phen, Pondimin and Redux were recalled in 1997.
